Shweta Pandya, Founder
Shweta Pandya is a singer, performer, and aspiring choreographer located in New Jersey, originally from Detroit, MI. She has been training in the Indian classical arts for over 20 years. Shweta is trained in Hindustani Sangeet (Vocal and Instrumental), Bharatanatyam, and Kathak.
Currently, Shweta teaches both Hindustani vocal and keyboard at Sur Sangat to students of all ages and backgrounds. She teaches students both in person and online, and has students from all over the country, including California, Texas, North Carolina, Ohio, and Michigan. Her goal is to teach the Hindustani traditions of shruti, swara, raga, and tala to the next generation in the hopes that they too will pass it along to the next.
In 2022, Shweta completed her Master of Arts in Performing Arts (Vocal) from Veer Narmad South Gujarat University in Surat.
She completed her Madhyama Purna (Vocal Music) in 2008 under the guidance of her guru, Smt. Mrinalini Arkatkar (disciple of Dr. M. V. Patwardhan) at Gamak Academy in Troy, MI. In 2009, she completed her Madhyama in Harmonium, and in 2014, she completed her “baithak,” sometimes also known as a “kalavandan.” Additionally, she completed her Bharatanatyam Arangetram under the guidance of Guru Smt. Chaula Thacker (Chauladevi Insititute of Dance and Yoga) in 2011.
Shweta has also trained in Kathak under the guidance of Guru Smt. Smruti Vora at Noopur Nritya Academy, Surat. While under her guidance, Shweta completed her Praveshika Purna (Third Year) in Kathak from Akhil Bhartiya Gandharva Mahavidyalaya Mandal.
As a performer, Shweta has had the privilege of performing at venues such as the National Arts Club, 92NY, New Victory Dance, Chelsea Factory, and Fotografiska in NYC, as well as Michael A. Guido Theatre in Michigan.
She also currently sits on the Board of Directors of Nadanta, Inc., a non-profit cultural organization with whom she has been dancing with since 2002.
