So excited to be leading a retreat focused on the use of sound as a medium of self expression! Hindustani music is my first love, a constant that has been with me since the age of three.
Offering a deep dive into Hindustani music, the retreat is designed to provide participants with an enriching experience of learning, understanding, and performing the elements that make Hindustani music so captivating, with a focus on the raga as both a concept and a medium of expression.
- An introduction to nada (sound) and tala (rhythm) in Hindustani music
- Guided learning of a raga, its components, and traditional compositions
- An introduction to improvisation in the Hindustani classical tradition, allowing participants to explore the creative freedom & self expression that comes with raga-based performance
- A lived experience of the mental and spiritual benefits of Hindustani music
